BMW Efficient Dynamics

What’s the difference between average and exceptional? Average is having a lung capacity of 6 litres and being able to dive to a depth of just over 5 metres. World champion free-divers can dive 20 times deeper, to a depth of 113 metres and back again on just one breath of air. They are able to extract the most from every breath of air to deliver something exceptional. The difference, quite simply, is efficiency.

Three decades of innovation, forward-thinking and commitment have all led to this ideal. This is our inspiration. The intelligent use of lightweight materials, refined aerodynamic engineering and superior engine optimisation is how we make it a reality.

Welcome to BMW EfficientDynamics.

Intelligent Lightweight:

Innovation is a process of discovery and refinement. This is evident in BMW EfficientDynamics through the intelligent use of materials lighter than those conventionally used in a vehicle. By using aluminium in the engine bay and chassis and light magnesium in the crankcase, for instance, we create vehicles that are lighter, deliver power more spontaneously and are far more responsive. And because they are lighter, they deliver increased fuel efficiency too.

Aerodynamics:

Quite simply, a vehicle with reduced air resistance is more fuel efficient, which is why our designers and engineers have crafted vehicles that maximise the fluid economy of movement. Because we create body shells that offer less air resistance, our vehicles become more fuel efficient and thus release fewer harmful emissions. Enhanced aerodynamics also ensures increased vehicle stability at high speeds and improved handling all round.

Engine Optimisation:

Pivotal to the philosophy of EfficientDynamics is optimisation, and what better place to start than at the heart of every BMW: the engine. Our revolutionary High Precision Injection (HPI) system and fully variable valve control system, Valvetronic, are but two of the numerous refinements we have made to our award-winning power units. Engines with HPI technology run leaner over a range of engine speeds while Valvetronic technology further reduces the vehicles fuel consumption while, at the same, time boosting its performance. Combine this with the lightweight construction and its easy to see why EfficientDynamics is so revolutionary in both boosting performance and improving fuel efficiency.

Diesel:

BMW diesel engines have always set the benchmark for performance, power and efficiency, but now BMW EfficientDynamics delivers even more accomplished diesel engines. The intelligent use of lightweight materials in the construction helps to enhance their already formidable performance, while the multi-phase, high-pressure fuel injection system translates into a whisper-quiet and more economical drive. Additionally, the inclusion of Variable Twin Turbo technology further enhances the dynamic power of these engines and advances the vehicles fuel efficiency even more.
