Penny wise, pound foolish

After hearing ad nauseum during the Olympics that Michael Phelps' LZR swimsuit was "worth its weight in gold," the aptly named blog Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories decided to find out empirically if that was literally true. (God bless the Internet.) Turns out: not quite. As you can see from their chart aboveand there are many, many more charts herethe swimmer's Speedo is actually worth its weight in marijuana or industrial diamonds. Not quite gold, but then again, Mr. Phelps already has plenty of that.
