What Is Your Dream For Your Writing Career?
Posted on 20 June 2008 by Sharon
I was inspired by a recent post from Crystal at BigBrightBulb. She asked what we wanted to be when we grew up, encouraging us to share our childhood dreams. That thread makes good reading, but it got me to thinking that we don’t only have dreams for our lives when we are children. Our dreams change as we grow, but we still have them.
I’m now doing the job that I want to do, but there are still things that I dream of achieving. Things like:
- finally publishing my children’s stories or poetry
- finishing a novel and becoming a bestselling author who remains in the background
- finishing my ebooks
- finding a way to keep writing income coming in while being semi-retired
What are your dreams for your writing career? What would you like to have achieved in the next year, five years or ten years?

I would love to continue writing what I like to write while continuing to earn as if I’m still writing 40+ hours a week on stuff I don’t love to write.
I guess I’m hoping to become a philanthropic internet marketing tycoon who helps people and earns wads of cash so I can dabble and write and help others but do so on my own schedule.

Right now, very short term, I dream of actually getting a good night’s sleep
.
Longer-term, my dreams are to:
*Publish my first book by November 2008.
*Spend time with my family in Barbados twice a year.
*Spend more time dancing - both taking classes and recreationally.
*Reclaim my six-pack.
*Become a full-time author, songwriter and performance poet…and, as Dana said, earn as much as (or more than) if I am working 40+ hours for “the man”. Who is actually a woman. But whatever.

My short-term writing goal is to become published in a national women’s magazine by the time I’m 30 (I only have four months to achieve this goal…don’t know if I’m gonna make it.) Down the road, I’d love to write children’s books, and perhaps a young adult novel.
