Mahalo VLOGIdol Episode Guide

Mahalo VLOG Idol

  • Episode 1: In the first episode of Mahalo VLOG Idol, 100 contestants came to Mahalo.com's office to meet with Mahalo Daily's producers. The 100 contestants were confronted with an on-the-spur hosting question, and were given the chance to impress the producers and gain the right to try out in front of our panel of celebrity judges. Episode 1 introduces the panel of celebrity judges as Jason Calacanis, CEO of Mahalo.com, Alex Abrecht of DiggNation, and Loren Feldman of 1938Media. Ryan Budke hosts.
  • Episode 2: In this episode, the first three potential hosts, Nadine Heimann, Katia Krayanyaya, Andrea Rene, and Bonny Pierzina interviewed Mahalo Daily co-host Lon Harris as if he were the manager of a popular Los Angeles-area frozen yogurt chain, known as Pinkberry. Alex criticized Nadine's mic style, Loren had problems with Katia's accent, and Bonny's style irked Jason. Nadine and Andrea stayed on, with Katia and Bonny not making the cut.
  • Episode 3: In the same format as episode 2, Sarah Atwood, Ladan Roxy, Kim Kelly, and Leah D'Emilio faced the harshness of our panel. Sarah was nervous going in, Ladan questioned the judging style of the audition, Kim nearly cried, and Leah took some hard criticism of her newsy-hosting style. Despite her nervousness, Sarah performed well enough to stay in, and despite the criticism of Leah's style, she managed to convince the panel of her ability. Ladan also pulled through, leaving Kim as the only rejection in the third episode.
  • Episode 4: Erica Jean took the first slot in the fourth Mahalo VLOG Idol show, and got Pinkberry manager Lon Harris to pitch the audience on Pinkberry's distinctive taste. Mecca Dyas took the second slot, and revealed the most important Pinkberry ingredient. Jennifer Hedrick was up third, and stumbled a little on the interview skills. Last but not least, Martine Beerman showed how much she wanted the gig. Erica and Martine managed to bring it and push through to round two, with Jennifer's inexperience and Mecca's name flub preventing them from moving on.
  • Episode 5: Pili Nathaniel fought her corner in the fifth show in the Mahalo VLOG Idol series, and was forced to pitch herself to the judges. As the second of those auditioned, Tanja Barnes committed the mortal sin of forgetting the name of the store (whose manager she was interviewing!). In the second half of the show, Michelle Hummel pulled off a professional vibe, and Kristina Allison split the judges. Only Tanja didn't make the cut, with Pili, Michelle, and Kristina all making it through to round two.
  • Episode 6: Tina Ivlev took an interesting angle with her questions for Lon Harris, Alice Sarfati picked out Lon's favorite combination Pinkberry flavor, Lisa Brewster impressed the judges with her geek credentials, and Melody Mooney took a niche angle for her interview. Alice, Tina, and Lisa took the prize in this episode, and moved onto the second round. Melody didn't quite make it, although she did get offered the chance to come back and guest host a show for Mahalo Daily.

The Bachelon

  • Episode 1: Hosted by the veritable bachelor Lon Harris, the Bachelon takes the top 12 finalists into the second round of the Mahalo VLOG Idol competition. Hosting from the romantic highlands of Scotland, Lon brings a simple interviewing challenge to the 12 finalists: asking members of the public whether they think Obama will win the U.S. Elections in November 2008, and become President. On the stunning 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica, Sarah Atwood and Martine Beerman cornered Joe Public in the middle of their shopping. Sarah passed the judges with flying colors to go on to become a member of the final six. Martine, however, did not. She was asked to leave immediately.
  • Episode 2: In the second of The Bachelon series, Andrea Rene took on an even split of McCain and Obama supporters on 3rd Street Promenade, Ladan Roxy picked up some Democrats and a Republican. Alice Sarfati, Erica Jean, and Michelle Hummel also appear in this episode, although only Andrea and Michelle made it through to the next round of the competition.
